Treating your new tattoo with care is just as important as the artist’s work itself, as the healing process directly impacts the long-term vibrancy of the ink. Once you remove the initial bandage—usually after a few hours or as directed—gently wash the area with lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, antibacterial soap using only your clean hands. Pat it dry with a fresh paper towel rather than a cloth towel, which can harbor bacteria or snag on the skin. Over the next two weeks, apply a very thin layer of specialized ointment or unscented lotion to keep the skin hydrated, but avoid "suffocating" the tattoo with too much product. It is vital to resist the urge to pick or scratch at any scabs or peeling skin, as this can pull the pigment out and cause scarring. Additionally, keep the tattoo out of direct sunlight and avoid submerging it in pools, hot tubs, or baths until it is fully healed to prevent infection and fading.
